Assistant Professor Susana Gonzaga – Was born in Porto – Portugal, and holds a PhD in Design from the Polytechnic of Milan, on the theme of Culture and Musealization of Design in Europe. She has been an assistant professor in the Department of Art and Design at the Universidade da Madeira (UMa -PT) since 2012, after teaching at the University of Aveiro (PT) and the Polytechnic School of Design in Milan (IT). She was the coordinator of the 1st and 2nd cycles in Design at the University of Madeira until January 2017 and created the Multidisciplinary Masters in Spatial Design. Susana is the coordinator of the research group Peripheries – dedicate to Design, Culture ,Nature and Tourism, part of the Research Unit ID +, Institute of Research in Design, Media and Culture; and Coordinator in Portugal for the GIDE Group – Group for International Design Education. She is a member of several scientific committees of international and national meetings, and a reviewer of scientific publications in the area of Design. Chair in conjunction with UNIDCOM – IADE-Creative University of Lisbon, of the 9th International Senses and Sensibility Conference, under the theme Design Beyond Borders, which took place in Funchal in October 2017 and Chair for the 10th edition to be held in Cape Verde in 2019. Susana dedicates her research projects to the application of the Human Centred Design methodology, applied to public spaces and cultural and immaterial goods. Currently she’s undertaking a new research field dedicated to Natured Centred Design.
